Ryan Giggs hails Gareth Bale after later winner against Azerbaijan

Gareth Bale was hailed by wales director Ryan Giggs following the Real Madrid superstar kept their Euro 2020 qualification hopes alive against Azerbaijan.
Bale struck six minutes out of time his goal for his nation and his first in 10 weeks to give Wales a victory and lift them.
Anything but success against Azerbaijan – rated 109 from the world and 85 places – would have been a tragedy for their hopes of qualification.
“Clearly Gareth has scored so many vital goals for Wales over time,” Giggs said.
“Usually when he keeps grading, so I was glad to see his score for Real Madrid last week.
“Just enjoy the remaining lads he showed great character, kept going to the end, I am really happy for him.
“We were overly fussy to get to the target, also rushed. I have been in games such as this before, you are never sure whether to stick or twist. There were not enough players in good form from the first half.”
Wales maintained a lead through the bizarre own objective of Pavlo Pashayev.
The full-back was unaware that Bale shot spun in his direction and he headed it past goalkeeper Salahat Agayev that is progressing.
However, Azerbaijan equalised during Mahir Emreli in a comedy of defensive errors.
Giggs said:”I was not pleased with the first halfof the We didn’t play well and we did not stick into the game plan.
“I understood 1-0 would not be great enough, I was frustrated. We had a whole lot of possession but we didn’t move the ball .
“We weren’t patient and that is what they’re good at, sitting in their shape, win the ball and sprint forward.”
But Giggs praised his side’s fighting qualities, adding:”I’m delighted with the 3 points, with the personality we’ve shown.
“We always work hard and we will learn from it. We’ll delight in this because it’s not easy to win things in this group.”
