British Boxing Board of Control open to discussion about Video Assistant Referees in Boxing

Charlie Edwards retained his WBC title in the weekend using a replay led to a’no contest’, but would VAR soon be introduced into boxing?
The British flyweight was left distraught after having a late onslaught by Julio Cesar Martinez led to a third-round knockout, however, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman promptly chased the result because a’no competition’, mentioning the governing body’s willingness to utilize’instant replay’ to tackle contentious events.
Following the use of VAR in soccer, the British Boxing Board of Control affirmed they’d be amenable to debate about the possibility of introducing technology to aid officials.
Asked if VAR may be released, Robert Smith, General Secretary of this BBBofC told Sky Sports:”I believe we are always seeking to improve matters. It had been.
“There a lot of things you have got to think about, where you’re getting the perspectives from etc.. Who’s supplying it?
“Do not forget we’d 286 shows this past year. Are we just going to select not the shows and the huge shows? Don’t think that works, therefore we’ve got to look in itultimately on Saturday it was used.”
Sky Sports pro Matthew Macklin had consented with the decision of all the WBC.
‘That’s the right decision,” Macklin told Sky Sports. “He was clearly hurt, he did get put down.
“He was stunned from a head , then he definitely got crippled having a body shot, like he confessed , and he said took a knee, tried to get my breath back and after that he was on his knee, then that’s when Martinez struck him with that significant body shot which took the wind from him. Absolutely the ideal choice to call a no contest.”
The BBBofC frequently bring board members together to examine current issues and Smith states VAR could develop into a talking point.
“We have meetings on a regular basis. We always talk about things to attempt to improve the game,” he said.
“When it had been determined we’d use it, we’d bring it in as soon as possible. Practically possible, if it was decided, but as I mention, it was used on Saturday.”
